Right now, if families have the same last name, there is no identifying information available on the payments journal screen except their current balance which does not always make it possible to identify the proper family who is paying.

The Payments > Deposit screen may be more user friendly. One of the features is the ability to search by last name (parent name displays as well). This is helpful if you have payments from families that have been split.
