Chip Reader for credit/debit cards

Customer has reported that a family's card was flagged by their bank as a fraudulent charge because the card was swiped instead of using the EMV chip on their card.

Customer is extremely concerned that the industry is moving along and we are not keeping up with basic and widely available card processing hardware.

They are asking for chip readers that can function for POS payments through Desktop.

How does this impact the customer's business?

Customer concerned that this is an issue that will spread as time goes on, creating more friction with their families who are trying to pay. There is also a concern about the security of stripe versus chip, and a question about how well we are keeping up with industry standards.

This may be an issue that erodes their trust in us as a service provider long term.

This is something I will be reviewing with Mari since she runs the payments team. This will likely require development on the payments side as well as the Desktop side. There is also a good chance this will require firmware updates on the equipment that has chip readers.

I will bubble this one to the top of my priorities to investigate since this could have far-reaching implications.
